High Voltage live review

Here’s a review of the gig we played with Desire and Glass Candy last week:

First out of the traps are MAY68 who have been touted as the next rising stars from Manchester’s rich tapestry of new acts, and from tonights performance the plaudits seem to be on to something. Fronted by Jude Wainwright whose sexy demure wins the crowd over in an instant they take the DFA records blueprint and add a very British twist to it. Throughout their 6 song set its apparent that they don’t have a single poor track as the disco pop of ‘Last Mile’ and Electro thumping ‘My Ways’ keep the Deaf Institutes crowd dancing throughout. Special mention must also go to mid set cover of Visages ‘Fade to Grey’, which is excellent and pumped full of extra beats to bring it to life and fit into the MAY68 repertoire perfectly.

We’ll be headlining the next High Voltage showcase at The Deaf Institute on Friday 27th November, supports will come from The Heartbreaks, Strays, Hey Zeus and The Blackout Band, and DJs will be playing until 3am. Doors will open at 8pm, tickets are £5 adv. from Ticketline, We Got Tickets, Piccadilly Records and the venue.

RIP Jerry Fuchs. He was a great drummer who played with Holy Ghost, The Juan Maclean, !!! and Maserati to name but a few. He died yesterday, aged 34, after falling down an elevator shaft in Brooklyn. We supported The Juan Maclean in May 09 and his performance was truly amazing.

Speak soon.
